In that “whichever house” is an affective work of auto-fiction that explores the plasticity of the photographic medium. Miscelaneous footage and photographs are montaged to extract subjectivity and meaning from a mundane family archive.
I made this piece while on academic exchange at the Fine Arts School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (EBA) for a course on video art and photographic theory.
The work was inspired by texts that explore imagetic hierarchies, such as Hito Steyerl’s In Defense of the Poor Image; or that argue manipulation as the sine qua non of the photographic medium, such as Joan Fontecuberta’s The Kiss of Judas and Vilém Flusser’s Towards a Philosophy of Photography.
